Herbs for health. We have all heard the joyous buzz surrounding the wonderful effects and benefits of herbs and essential oils. We adore the relaxing and peaceful scent of lavender, enjoy the reviving sensation that peppermint gives us inside and out, and appreciate the healing effects of calendula. But is there more to it than that? Do these essential oils and herbs do more for us than what we realize? The answer is most indubitably and enthusiastically, yes!

So, we’ve put together a small glossary of essential oils and herbs that we use in our products, along with a list of health benefits and what they can do to enhance the magnificence that is:

Let’s start with one of the most popular flowers and a beloved of ours:

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Health Benefits:

Helpful in treating migraines, headaches, depression, nervous tension and emotional stress. Induces sleep, treats acne, relieves joint pain, acts as a bug repellent, aids in hair growth, great for blood circulation. Is that not enough?! Well, then there’s the fact that it smells absolutely magnificent. It is a complete medicine cabinet in a bottle. Use the essential oil or the lavender buds. Safe for babies, pets and expectant mothers.

Next, is one of our favorite herbs – a super power:

Calendula (Calendula officinalis)

Health Benefits:

Acts as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic. Great for skin and wounds and safe enough for babies. No first-aid kit should be without this healing herbal oil/cream. Use the dried herb or make a wonderful infused oil for use on skin or creams. Fabulous in healing herbal teas. Helps your body heal from stress.

Here is our gentle persuader:

Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis, Matricaria chamomilla, Matricaria recutita)

Health Benefits:

Accelerates the healing process of minor wounds. Acts as a disinfectant and sooths the skin, especially after sunburn. Protects the skin from free radicals, slowing the aging process. Helps prevent and eliminate dandruff, calms eye irritations. Acts as a muscle relaxant and has anti-bacterial properties, so it keeps you healthy on the inside and the outside. Benefits sleep, depression and anxiety. And, it tastes great as a tea. Use the essential oil or the dried herb.

And the stimulating, refreshing and ever-popular herb:

Peppermint (Mentha Piperita)

Peppermint tea has long been used as an aid in stomach discomfort or aches. When combined with a carrier oil, it can be rubbed on the chest and used to clear lung and chest congestion. Effectively lessens symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to noise and sensitivity to light. Peppermint is an intense oil and should always be diluted with a carrier oil before use directly on skin.

Of course, these are just a few of our favorites. We love them and their healing and beneficial effects. That’s why we share them with you as ingredients in many of our skin care and hair care products.
