Happy St. Patty’s Day!

Aye!  It’s that time of the year again and we especially love the festivities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day. In fact, it’s one of our favorite days of the year. It’s time to celebrate and be green for a day. We love all the craziness of the day.

And here’s why:

A pint of ice cold ale.

(Arthur Guinness signed a 9000-year lease on his brew pub in Dublin in 1759)

Festive shamrocks.

(shamrocks were used by St. Patrick to explain the holy trinity and were worn as a symbol of Irish Christian pride on St. Patrick’s Day)

Beautiful, toe-tappin’ Irish tunes.

(Irish music can be traced back 2000 years to when the Celts arrived in Ireland)

Joyous parades.

(the first ever St. Patrick’s Day Parade was on March 17, 1762 in New York City)

Leaping leprechauns.

(Leprechauns are actually fairies from Irish folklore who like to partake in mischief)

…and just the excitement of knowing that spring is near! Did we mention men in kilts?

St. Patrick’s Day started out as a day of feast celebrating the Patron Saint of Ireland.  St. Patrick is said saint and legend says he drove all of the snakes out of Ireland. Yahoo! Of course, there never were snakes in Ireland, but that’s neither here nor there. The point here is that St. Patrick’s Day began as a small celebration by our Irish brethren each year on March 17^th, and has evolved into a worldwide day of comradery and a day of just plain old joy and happiness!

There’s nary a street you can walk down that doesn’t have some type of celebratory symbol of the day displayed on March 17th every year.

So this year, grab a pal or two, walk or cab it to your nearest pub and strike up a chorus of “My Wild Irish Rose” or “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” and soak up the knowledge that any other day you’d be pegged with peanuts or thrown in the clink, but today bein’ St. Patrick’s Day, darlin’, you’ll be joined by a swayin’ group of revelers who are Irish with you, even if just for a day.
